Pontypool and Blaenavon Railway
Press Release - Vintage Carriages for Sale
Following the death of one of its members last year, the Pontypool and Blaenavon Railway have been asked by the family, to dispose of his rolling stock on their behalf. The items that are up for sale are 4 vintage carriages, all needing various levels of work to bring them back up to passenger carrying standards.
The items are:
- GWR 231, a clerestory Brake First Open built 1896. At one stage used as the Newport Engineers Saloon and preserved in 1967, originally at the South Devon Railway.
- LSWR 1357 'Ironclad' Brake Third Corridor built 1923. heavily modified as a Staff & Tool coach by British Railways.
- SR 4958 Post Office Tender Vehicle built 1939. Substantially intact, originally preserved at the Mid Hants Railway as a workshop extension.
- LSWR 70 Restaurant Composite built 1907. Originally built as a clerestory coach, the clerestory was removed in 1931. In 1943 it was converted to an ambulance coach and saw service on the Longmoor Military Railway.
- Also available for sale is a GWR restaurant coach chassis that is no longer required by the railway.

FOR SALE - Mk1s AND Mk2E
We have the following coaches for sale.
MK 2E RFO, ex virgin, in good condition. Been used as static buffet coach since it retired from Virgin Trains Air brake/Air con £10,000
MK 1 former BCK, converted for engineers use, so all original interior fittings have been removed. Gangways removed and plated over. Could be coverted back
to passenger use, body work not too bad for an elderly mark 1. B1 bogies. We require B1 bogies, but will sell whole coach part ex for bogies if these are available.
Scheduled for scrapping to recover bogies if buyer not found. Offers reflecting the scrap value.
MK1 BG, B1 bogies. Needs fair amount of body & door work as well as brake system repairs. Bogie arrangements as for the BCK, but only one set required so
one of either vehicle could be straight sale. Offers reflecting the scrap value.
